We’re walking for wellness
Aah, a spot of sunshine and stories shared! There is nothing better than a stroll around the garden with friends.
A group of residents at The Bays Aged Care has been enjoying regular walks around the established gardens, enjoying the fresh air, admiring the flowers and reaping all the wonderful benefits of walking.
“Since the commencement of our walking group, we now have several regulars,” says Physiotherapist, Amanda. “They have greatly improved their endurance, walking increasingly longer distances without having a rest. And, with the spirited conversation that occurs while they’re walking, it’s evident how well they’ve improved their cardiorespiratory function as well.”
At The Bays Aged Care, we recognise the multiple benefits that exercise can bring to a resident’s physical and emotional wellbeing and our team plan and promote regular exercise as well as activities that include or encourage movement and foster vitality.
“We’ve been providing individualised exercise programs to some residents and seeing vast improvements in building strength, mobility and endurance,” says Manager, Hasika. “We also work very closely with our excellent general practitioners who refer residents who may require pain control, recovery after an injury or improved mobility, for example.
“Staying fit is important to me”, says resident Del who has a goal of five walks a day. “It’s easy to do on the garden track with a nice view or a short stroll to the shops and back.”
