Dedicated to making a difference – caring for residents with dementia
Residents living in The Bays Aged Care’s Memory Support Household love participating in a range of meaningful and engaging activities that boost mood, build connections and give them a sense of purpose.
Manager, Hasika says every resident is seen, heard and valued for who they are. “We recognise their unique stories, preferences and abilities and tailor care and activities to suit. The goal is to create a nurturing, inclusive environment where they have fun and feel safe and connected.”
“We’re continuously enhancing our care environment and are exploring ways to transform the space into a more relaxed, home-like setting – a space designed to nurture wellbeing and familiarity,” she says.
The Care and Lifestyle teams go out of their way to make sure residents feel at home. They work together to not only meet residents’ clinical, psychological and physical needs, but plan various cognitive, physical and sensory based activities to keep them engaged.
Ketut, a Personal Care Worker, has been caring for residents at The Bays for over six years and goes out of her way to ensure the residents feel at home. “I like to talk to them about their families and the mementoes they have displayed in their room. I like to make people smile and laugh, and it makes me so happy to see their faces light up as they talk about loved ones or their past.”
On warmer days, the residents enjoy spending time out in the gardens in the sunshine, while others enjoy painting, construction projects, movement to music, pet therapy or cooking.
