Men’s Group shows the power of connection

Male residents at The Bays are rediscovering the power of connection and companionship through regular get-togethers and the occasional adventure.

A shared love of conversation and good coffee is all that’s required to join the Men’s Group. Among the diverse group are former farmers, sailors, builders, engineers, accountants and business owners, each with a lifetime of experiences and stories to share. They’ve discovered plenty in common, however, through the specially arranged activities, projects and outings.

Manager, Hasika, says it’s wonderful to see the male residents get involved and active within the community. The men have gathered for woodworking sessions, a game of carpet bowls or even to watch sport and music concerts on the big screen. Other times, they’ve ventured out on the bus to Bunnings, to see a car museum collection, to take a walk along the local jetty, or just enjoy beer and chips at the local pub. “It has been lovely watching these friendships grow and hearing them plan their next adventure.”

“The group is grounded in inclusion, dignity and meaningful participation. In all the different activities or outings, everyone is supported to participate in a way that feels right for them,” she says.

The group especially like Tim Tam Tuesdays in the cafe and the Grumpy Old Men’s lunch group in the private dining room on Thursdays.
